                  IRISH FAERIE QUEEN AEVAL

Among the Celts of Ireland, Aeval was the
Fairy Queen of Munster. She held a midnight court to
determine if husbands were satisfying their wives' sexual
needs, or not, as the women charged. She deemed that men
were both prudish and lazy, and commanded that they bow to
the women's sexual wishes. The name Aeval,
also spelled Aoibheal or Aoibhell, is pronounced 'eeval'.
The name literally means burning fire, which may have
been a byword for the notion of ‘ardor’. |
