AESOP'S FABLES

The Peacock and the Crane

There was once a vain Peacock who strutted about all day spreading his beautiful feathers for all to see and admire.

One day he came across a Crane and decided to poke fun at him and his appearance. "What a pale grey coat of feathers you have, colorless and dull to all who chance to see you. Look at me. I am dressed like a king, in gold and purple and all the colors of the rainbow!"

"That may be true," replied the Crane, "but I soar to the heights of heaven and lift my voice to the stars. You walk on the ground, just like any other cock, with your feet trampling on bird droppings!"

Moral: Fine feathers need not make fine birds.
